COOKIE’S KID (work-in-progress)

Available for touring 2015-16

Cookie’s Kid (work-in-progress) is a new solo work performed by Rosie Herrera herself exploring ecstatic movement to discover what cultural history her body holds. It is a story told through the lens of Herrera’s childhood with a tough-as-nails Bronx mother and a counter-revolutionary Cuban refugee father. Cookie’s Kid uses iconography ranging from Chuck Norris to Walter Mercardo to La Lupe and examines how these seemingly unrelated idols are connected through themes of rebellion, strength, vulnerability and the ethereal.

Cookie’s Kid will premiere May 28-31, 2015 at Miami Light Project.

MAKE BELIEVE (work-in-progress)

Available for touring 2016-17

Deconstructing what it means to believe in magic, Make Believe uses religious iconography to explore themes of love and romance. Specifically investigating religious spectacle and how its themes of paganism, magic and celebrity worship influence our understanding of romance.  With a unique original score influenced by both sacred and pop music, Make Believe will also use film and multi-generational community engagement to create an immersive sacred performance experience.

Originally conceived at The American Dance Festival during a 2013 choreographic residency, Make Believe is anticipated to be full-evening performance. It is set to premiere on Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre in 2015-16.
